Canon Camcorder HR19 Drivers to Ubuntu

How to transfer video files from the Canon HR10 camcorder to Ubuntu?
The camcorder makes AVCHD files for 1080 lines video (HD) and the recording is made in a 8'' DVD drive in the camcorder.
The question is: how to copy the files to Ubuntu?
When I connect the camera to the PC - USB cable, the only thing that Ubuntu says is that it found a DVD Player, but I can't get in the DVD to see the files!
Canon website appears to have only Windows drivers.
Can someone help me?
