I am afraid that to use the remote desktop function in ubuntu, you need vnc. As far as I know, XP has no built in remote viewer.

you could put the vnc client on a usb thumbdrive...

or try the java version:

http://xrdp.sourceforge.net/
this is more secure than VNC
and you can nonnect to this server with mstsc (built in WinXP)

SLED (suse linux enterprise desktop) use the VNC via web page+java

Intrepid (8.10) has xrdp in universe. I've used it, it basically creates a Windows RDP front-end session to a VNC session, and encrypts the traffic on the wire. You can talk to it with the Windows Remote Desktop client.

Can you help with this problem?
