Development setup for ubuntu

Asked by Anand

Hello All,

I am Ubuntu user and willing to contribute my programming skills. But I am not quite clear on how to get the development environment setup. Is it project specific or is there a environment setup thats pretty much common to most projects? I want to start working on projects that offer mentoring and gradually gain momentum. I am sure many of you crossed the state in which I am. So any help in this regard is greatly appreciated. Any pointers to wiki pages or tips will be helpful.

Thanks and regards,
Anand.

You could also look at GnomeLove which "aims to help people who want to get started contributing to GNOME". It has also tagged bugs that can be easily fixed by new developers (a good way to get to know the code base):
