how do i defragment my hard drive

Asked by Mal Spitty

my computer seems to be slowing down a little. when i had windows, a simple defrag would speed it up again. can this be done in Ubuntu, or is it not necessary? i am running 8.10

EXT3 partitions dont need to be defrags... only fat32/ntfs partitions, but if you curious take a look at shake:

It seems mpre likely that you simply need to de-clutter the temp files. There was a question about this about a week ago but i need to dash off so wont be able to look until much later. It would be good if you hunted around the "Answers" forum and let us know if you find something useful.

Good luck and happy hunting from
Tom :)
