Wireless mobile Huawei EC325 setup problem

Asked by rajusenthi

I'm newbie to ubuntu 8.10.I'm using Huawei EC325 cdma modem with Win XP.I want to use it with Ubuntu.Ubuntu identifies the modem and configure it.But network is disabled as from the network icon in the top right corner of the window. Huawei uses a window to connect the modem..From the inbuilt help menu Ubuntu suggests system > adminstration > network to get the connection properties. But from Ubuntu8.10 system menu there is network option only available.what is the problem? How can I enable network connection?

I used Win Xp to connect to the manufacturers website and downloaded the linux drivers from there and then booted back into Ubuntu and read the drivers off the Windows partition :) Actually i think my dads Huawei was on a Virgin mobile contract so i used the Virgin website. I seem to remember the website wasn't very helpful about getting me to the right page so i had to use a google search. All i found this time was
http://nithinkamath.info/archives/2007/05/connecting-to-net-using-huawei-ec325-on-linux/

I thoiught the network-manager in Ubutu has different tabs along the top and you just have to click on the "Wireless Broadband" one? I'd try getting there by right-clicking on the networking icon up by the clock.

This is the type of solution that makes dual-booting so mch more robust than running either OS alone.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Already I folled the instructions from the website and search for driver from Huawei website. After searching various linux forums I 've reached the stage of modem inialized.Finaly the message from Terminal is "configuration does not specify a valid Phone Number/Login name/Pass word".I have used the same login name/pass word as provided by the bsnl. Also there is a 7 digit phone number for the modem. In /etc/wvdial.conf , as guided by the instructions I used phone number #777.I contact bsnl authorities but they are not response.Hence I uninstal ubuntu8.04 and instal ubuntu 8.10.There is also a problem as mentioned in first question.please guide me.

Hi :)

Have you been able to test the new Ubuntu 10.04 before it gets officially released?
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/testing/lucid/beta1
Trying it as a LiveCd or as an extra dual/multi-boot would be ideal. Developers and everyone are keen to try to iron out any problems before 10.04 gets officially released so you might find faster & more effective answers to your bug reports which would make 10.04 work better on your system for you

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
