Are drivers for other distros compatible with Ubuntu?

Asked by Tiggzz

Hi,

I'm looking to build a little machine which I will give Ubuntu a try on. The purpose of this machine is to be a firewall and a nas.

When it comes to choosing hardware, I'm concerned about drivers. If a device has drivers for other various distros, are any of them suitable with ubuntu?

A lot of the raid cards I have looked at only show drivers for RedHat, SuSE and Fedora. Would I be able to use any of those drivers with Ubuntu? I'd also be lkooking at a motherboard with everything built in apart from the raid. So again, I'm trying to find a board with all the drivers available to save any struggles later, or wasting my money with incompatible hardware.

I hope someone can give a bit of advice.

Thanks in advance

Tiggzz :)

Raid cards wich you have looked work also with Ubuntu. Linux has a spiecial type of code and when somthing is compatible with one or to distros it is really compatible with all others.
