Slow download speed when adding app (really slow)

when I download straight from the internet my speed is good but when I download something within my apps.. it is REALLY slow. even slow when using the torrent program

I am new at ubuntu and would love to solve this problem.

more tips... i am connect directly to the LAN cable.. so I am not connect wirelessly

i am getting speeds of 23kbs roughly in torrents and app downloading
but download anything from the net is pretty fast like 400kbs

if you mean you install software from the repository slowly you can try changing the server in System->Administration->Software Sources and use the drop down box to change the "Download From"

as for bit torrent, thats a bit trickier. if you have a router between your PC and cablemodem then you need to make sure the correct port(s) are being forwarded to your pc so you can have good torrent speeds. for more info see
