For a new linux administrator, what things should I do for preventing the domain user rights?

I would like to ask if I only want the domian users have the rights to execute some softwares like eclipse. How can I do as a linux administrator? By the way,can you give me some experience on the linux administration ?Thank you.

Hi jeffwang,

This would be really hard to do because you would have to whitelist every program needed to run Gnome (like gnome-panel, and some others).

You can provide a restricted shell/terminal, but GUI applications wouldn't work.

Another (but not really reasonable) is to remove any unwanted packages from the system. (but *CAREFUL* not to break any dependencies!)
