It exists a Software catalogue: http://www.ubuntu.com/products/softwarecatalogue. But it contains only a liitle bit of all the packages.

I guess the only possibility to get a full view over the existing packages is to use the Synaptic Package Manager. But take care: In my system more than 20'000 packages are included in Synaptic.

I would change the view. If you need a special software, try to use Synaptic or Add / Remove. If it doesn't match, ask a question in this launchpad.
