Ubuntu on my Vostro 1000.............

Asked by CoreyBlue

I want to install Ubuntu on my Dell Vostro 1000 laptop, it has 1GB RAM, 120GH HD, currently WinXP home, AMD Athalon 64x processor, disk drive does not work.

Is it worth it? I like ubuntu more than XP and i dual run it on my desktop, but i don't know if it's worth it on my laptop.

If any more info is needed, please tell me

EDIT...

okay, well, i have the live CD, i have the iso file, i have the necessary things to install it, except a working cd drive...

how would i install it completely over XP with no disc drive available?

Well, if you prefer Ubuntu over Windows, then yes. It is worth it. :)

Otherwise, I don't know what your preferences are. Installing Ubuntu is pretty easy once you have the live CD. Much easier than installing Windows on an empty hard drive.

Actually, I don't know. You could try.

Otherwise, there are 1GB usb flash drives for under $10, they are not very expensive.

oh, okay, actually i figured out why it wouldn't boot from the disk, every time i changed the boot device in the BIOS i forgot to save the settings, but now it worked and ubuntu runs perfectly, and thanks for the info anyway
