Netgear wireless WN311B drivers

Asked by wxjimx

I just loaded UBUNTU 8.1 and tried to load the drivers for the Netgear wireless PCI Adaptor card. It is a WN311B Netgear Rangemax card. I keep getting an error saying UBUNTU can't find the archive. Is this caed supported by UBUNTU?

How do I load the drivers for the card? Thanks

temporarily connect your computer to the internet via an ethernet adaptor.

to try to get your wifi working go to System → Administration → Software Sources click on the Updates tab, then check the box for Unsupported updates (intrepid-backports). after you've enabled the backports update your ubuntu software from a terminal with the commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

you may need to reboot. after that go to System → Administration → Hardware Drivers and enable any restricted drivers you have available.

if that doesnt work try:

Sorry if I bothered everybody on the same topic, but would it be the same solution for "Ubuntu 9.10"?
As you guess, I've been facing the same trouble after having installed "Ubuntu 9.10" on Desktop PC running WindowsXP and equiped with this Netgear WN311B PCI card.

Despite the fact that running Ubuntu "live" from its CD allowed me to recognize AND exploit the Wi-Fi through this card, it was no longer the case after having got rid of WindowsXP and installed instead,Ubuntu entirely on the Hard Disk!
I must say that I accepted the "Broadcom STA" driver, but this driver never could be activated AND exploiting the card at the same time...

As I am a new comer in Ubunto matter, I am asking for some help on this topic, if possible with all the necessary actions explained in details.

Any help around?
