niente suoni

premetto che è la prima volta che ho a che fare col mondo linux,
ho installato ubuntu sul portatile (acer)..sembra che tutto funzioni tranne l'audio che è del tutto assente.

Controlla anche se il tuo pc ha dei tasti o rotelline fisiche (sui bordi del pc) che ti consentono di alzare o abbassare l'audio.
Controlla anche le combinazioni di tasti esistenti sulla tua tastiera, evidenziate con tasti che riportano il logo con un altoparlante per alzare o abbassare l'audio.

Controlla che tutti i cursori siano in una posizione "alta" nel mixer che ti apparirà "doppio cliccando" sull'altoparlante in alto a destra dall'ora.
Poi prova il test dell'audio dal menu Sistema → Preferenze → Audio
cambia ad esempio da pulseaudio ad alsa e poi premi il pusante di test... per vedere se senti il tono di test.

Se ciò non funzionasse...

Ci dici il modello del pc solitamente lo leggi direttamente sulla cassa o sull'etichetta posteriore.

Apri un terminale da Applicazioni → Accessori → Terminale e digita o copia ed incolla in sequenza:

lspci

poi copia il risultato qui.

E' il sistema launchpad che mette in stato di expired le risposte che sono aperte da 15 giorni senza che esse siano state risolte, in tale modo su launchpad un utente che cerca una risoluzione ad un problema troverà nella maggior parte domande in stato di risolto.

Per favore i dici che modello di Acer è lo leggi nell'etichetta dietro al portatile.
Comunque fai questa prova... apri un terminale da Applicazioni → Accessori → Terminale e digita:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base &

dai la tua password utente se richiesta dal sistema, poi inserisci questa riga in fondo al file aperto:

options snd-hda-intel model=acer

Salvi esci e riavvii il pc.

Prova i suoni dal menu Sistema→Preferenze→Audio

Se non riesci a sentire gli mp3, questo è un altro discorso, devi installare alcuni pacchetti aggiuntivi.

prova a resettare le impostazioni alsa con :

sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset
