LAN WAN Software for creating an internet access where software provided by terminal operator is best suited for Windows

Asked by Umashankar

Hellow,

I don't know how to go ahead with my question, the system made out is best suited for brainy ones. Still, will try -
I am unable to make my system with Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop Edition, Internet Ready. The CD provided by local telephone operator does not seem to open with any of the sw/programmes that I have. Auto Run just doesn't work

I want to load LAN OR WAN software for Huawei supply FWT WiLL terminal + Phone. I use Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop Edition.

The service provided is BSNL, Bangalore, India, and they don;t seem to help. The software is probably MS Windows suited. I am unable to match any of the programs / auto run softwares to open the contents of the CD, that contains all the internet connect software/programmes.

Even Huawei seem to be delaying OR not responding. Model is ETS-1201, Huawei Technologies, China.

The other problem is the USB cable (same configuration on both ends) connecting the PC and the Huawei terminal also is not recognised by the PC. My PC is old Dell, 1.8GHz, about 80 GB HDD, 768 mb ddr, Dell Ambition with Graphix card added and firewire added.

Monitor is new Flat Screen Samsung, LCD 19".

Please help. I am in Bangalore, India.

My mail id is: <email address hidden>

Thanks and regards,

Umashankar

hello Umashankar,

take the (windows only) CD that your ISP has provided you and just stick it in a drawer somewhere. you dont need it for ubuntu. see if this page helps you:

Yes

Ubuntu and lnux generally doesn't really need any of the Windows software and has it's own huge "repositories" of software that tends to work a lot better.

Good luck with this

Tom :)
