Running Tom Tom software under Ubuntu 8.04

Asked by Steve Lake

Has anyone succeeded in running Tom Tom software to update their sat nav device under Ubuntu 8.04 - or do I need to install some VMWare software? I see that it doesn't perform at all well with Wine.

I use it under VirtualBox, the PUEL licensed (non-free) version direct from http://virtualbox.org/ and it works fine.

Alan:

Many thanks for pointing me towards this product; I've installed it fairly easily and got a basic XP set-up installed on the new virtual machine.

I guess the next step is to sort out the network connection, AV software (is that needed if I'm running inside Ubuntu?) and then my TomTom s'ware.
