AWS instance store images have only 2GB root volume

Note that the 14.04 instance stores had 10GB root volumes. So this is quite a change.

That is nonsense. Canonical makes these AMIs, not Amazon.

Thanks Michael, yes, Canonical makes these AMIs, but apparently they changed the instance store AMIs to have only a 2GB root volume starting with 16.04. That's ridiculous, and I think it's a mistake. I don't know how to get into touch with them asking them about this, other than this forum.

It's not a question about how to use these AMIs. These AMIs are look bootable cds, but they made a mistake with these cds. I want to get in touch with them asking to correct this.

The root volume sized changed between two versions of Ubuntu AMI

No I don't believe it is.

Nope, it's superannoying. Root volume is ext4, /mnt is /ext3 (what???).

But thanks for that Rok! That allows me to go back to an earlier ami.

Note that the AMI Rok provided, ami-914ced87, is an hvm instance store. The paravirtual one is ami-2657f630.

This has been fixed across all releases as per bug #1680296

Zesty (17.04) daily and release builds 20170412.1 (and newer) are 10GB in size for PV/HVM instance-store AMIs.

Yakkety (16.10) daily build 20170413 (and later) has a 10GB root volume for PV/HVM instance-store AMIs.

Xenial (16.04) daily and release builds 20170414 (and later) have a 10GB root volume for PV/HVM instance-store AMIs.
