Softwar Center

Asked by davidzaq1

Hello,

I tried to look online for the software center install for ubuntu 16.04.
According to PC magizine, they dumped the software center-software and in the process of improving it.

I found a deb link which took me to the install page on the software center but in the middle of the page there is a statement
which says, "this app contains no software" so I am guess the software center is on hold for the time being.

if you have any advice or if you can help me with this, I would be grateful.

Thank you.

Sounds like the software centre cache is a bit messed up. If you clear it then it may help.

Hello,

There is no software center any longer. One of the commands you gave me removed it.
I am not sure how to get it back or even clear the cache.

Can you help me with this?

Thank you.

Hello,

Well, that put the software center in but there is no software in it and it wont load.
It just sits there as an empty file.

I am not sure what is going on here.

Thank you.

If you have problems with Software-center and Ubuntu-software, you should check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageManagerTroubleshootingProcedure#Step_10_Ubuntu_Software_Center_fails_to_open

Hello,

Well I am having two problems here so I am not sure if the above link will help.

Ubuntu Software, il loaded in Unity and works just fine.

It is the Ubuntu Software center that is not working.

I am assuming that the Ubuntu Software is current for 16.04 and

the Ubuntu Software Center is no longer working for 16.04 but is fine for everything under it.

I read some posts on the internet saying the "software center" is out for 16.04 but don't know for sure.

If it is, is there a way to get rid of the software center without also taking out Ubuntu Software?

If not, I will just leave it as the new verson seems to be working fine.

Thank you.

Have you tried the instructions in the link?

Hello,

No, I have not tried instructions in link above.

The Ubuntu Software Center does not open.

The Ubuntu Software does open.

These are two different versions. They look completely different

I think I just just get ride of the Software Center and keep the Ubuntu Software

What I am afraid of is if I get rid of the Software Center, it will also take out Ubuntu Software so
I am not sure how to do this.

The link you provided is for the Software Center. I am not sure if I should run these commands I do not need the old version, just the new one.

Thank you for your help

The instructions in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageManagerTroubleshootingProcedure#Step_10_Ubuntu_Software_Center_fails_to_open are for both - Software Center and Ubuntu Software.

Why do you assume that removing Software Center would impact Ubuntu software?
The are separate packages. It is similar to Firefox and the Chromium browser If you install or uninstall one of them, this will not influence the other one.

I followed all the steps listed but at the end when i looked in my computer, thee was no sign of
any kind of software.

Anyway, I think I found out what the problem was.
