Wireless broadband modem, problems in configuration.

Asked by Bryan Lovquist

Hello

I am having some problems with my wireless broadband internet connection. The following is the history.

1. I purchased a new laptop (Dell Studio 15).
2. I installed intrepid ibex. Everything works fine.
3. I purchased a USB wireless broadband modem (Huawei E160G), my prepaid account (three.com.au) was activated at the shop.
4. I plugged the modem into the laptop and configured the connection.
5. I was unable to get the modem to work. Network manager identified it as an E220 and asked for passwords?
6. I re-installed intrepid ibex with the modem plugged into my laptop during the install process and then configured the connection.
7. The modem works properly. Network manager connects when requested and all is well.
8. I created another account for my partner to use.
9. I am unable to get the modem to work in the new account. It still works properly in the original account. Network manager identifies it as an E220 and asked for passwords?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Go to System -> Adminstration -> Users and groups.
unlock the keyring, find your user, click properties, click user privileges, and make sure the "connect to the internet using a modem" and "connect to wireless and ethernet networks" boxes are checked.

I did the above mentioned procedure but it does not allow me to make sure the "connect to the internet using a modem" and "connect to wireless and ethernet networks" boxes are checked
even though I am the sole user.

Hello

I am having some problems with my wireless broadband internet connection. The following is the history.

1. I have a old HP ze2000 laptop (2005) with 9.04 version. I purchased a USB wireless broadband modem (Huawei EC1261).
2. I upgraded to 9.10. Wired broadband connection (DSL) did not work but wireless mobile broadband (Huawei EC1261) with Tata Photon plus connection worked fine. Did not do any specific configuration setup. Just installed the program through WINE.
3. I upgraded to 10.04. System would not boot up.
4. Again reverted to 9.04. System worked with wired broadband DSL connection but refused to work with USB wireless broadband modem (Huawei EC1261) - Tata photon plus (India).
2. I upgraded to 9.10 again. Wired broadband connection (DSL) did not work but wireless mobile broadband (Huawei E160G) with Tata Photon plus connection worked fine. Tried edit connections but I was unable to set up DSL connection. Tried sudo pppoeconf to set up wired DSL broadband but it did not work.

Have again reverted to 9.04 with DSL (broadband) working fine but but wireless mobile broadband (Huawei EC1261) with Tata Photon plus (India) connection still not available.

Any ideas?

Thanks
