cannot boot Ubuntu 2.6.20-15-server (fresh install)

Asked by Fuman

I've windows XP orignally on my laptop (laptop specs to follow).
I installed Kubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) - server with Kubuntu desktop.
When I tried to boot up the server via Grub I get the following:

First it'll say:
Starting up...

then screen would clear and I would get the following at the bottom of the screen

Int 14: CR2 c1000000 err 00000002 EIP c03f3c3e CS 00000060 flags 00010006
Stack: 373c0046 00000000 ffffffff c049000 00001600 00000080 0060000000 ffffff80

It would just get stuck here =(
I get the same thing in recovery mode.

press F6 (extra options) you will be presented with some preloaded parameters. Append the pre-existing parameters by adding “noapic nolapic pci=noacpi acpi=off” at the end of the line (without " "). This disable for the moment the acpi daemon.

Let me know, thanks

hey,

I tried adding it to kernel / init boot options (not both at the same time), I still get the samething.
thanks for trying to help!!

The F6 thing doesn't work. Instead, I editting the boot parameters but pusing 'e' for edit (or something like that to edit boot parameters.

I think this is a bug. You can open a bug and post the error message before wrote and the result of lspci -vvn command.

Thanks

I am getting almost the exact same thing. The dump is slightly different. Fresh install on Via Epia M10000 - onboard video, nic, etc.

Int 14: CR2 c1000000 err 00000002 EIP c03f3c3e CS 00000060 flags 00010016
Stack: 373c0046 00000000 ffffffff c049000 000013c0 00000080 003c0000 ffffff80

(The 'flags' and two stack elements differ.)

Any word on what the issue might be? I'm going to try the acpi args...

No joy on the acpi args to either 'kernel' or 'initrd' using the [e] to edit lines in grub.

Got around this by installing the 'alternative Desktop' instead of the 'Server' version. Booted right up with no problems.

Can you help with this problem?
