Problem partitioning drive

Asked by Wil

OK, I've figured out that using WUBI is, at best, a piss-poor idea. Following the link that Tom gave me to the "Partitioning" part of Installing Ubuntu...I WISELY decided to try this out on an older computer first, that I wouldn't really cry and have to attend therapy for several months, if I screwed anything up!

This turned out to be a good choice! The installation went fine. BUT, I chose the something-something using freed space an wound up with too much space being given to Ubuntu.

No harm done! SO, when I decided to eleminate that bloody WUBI from my NEW computer and tried to Install Ubuntu CORRECTLY this time I chose "manual" install, following the directions from Tom's link carefully!

Problem? I get as far as doing everything right and run into a wall with this: "No root system defined--resolve this from the partitioning menu"

I back track and find absolutely NOTHING about any root ANYTHING!

I'm not a computer dummy! I have been SUCCESSFULLY building comps for myself and others for 15 years!

These instructions NEED to be made MUCH more clear! Please help--I'm stuck!

The forum link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=989805
has somebody asking this same question. There should be a point where you may define partitions, and you must define a partition as the '/' or the root partition

Thanx, But, this needs to be better explained in the instrucs, alonng with what those other thingys mean as well.

EG "/", "Boot", etc.

i agree the bit about making a partition root is to tiny to notice and isn't covered in the instructions well. Sorry i forgot about this. Sometimes i get so used to doing something that describing it in total detail is tricky. Did your old machine lose data? I can understand your frustration but am glad to say you're nearly there, nearly free. I still think it's important to have a Windows boot available but i am so glad to be free of having to use it.
Thanks, regards and apologies from
