No sound Gnome Ubuntu (and other distros)

Asked by Ruben

Im running Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS 64-bit on a Sony Vaio PCV-A1112L and no matter what distro I use (Manjaro, Debian, Ubuntu Gnome( I don't get any sounds. I've check to see if anything is muted, if I have other options available for sound, checked the alsamixers. I've also checked for updates for any proprietary drivers. Live USBs also don't have any sound

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse* ~/.config/pulse*

Wait 10 seconds and reboot

$ sudo killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse* ~/.config/pulse*
[sudo] password for blkwolf:
rm: cannot remove '/home/blkwolf/.pulse*': No such file or directory

I didn't add sudo, why did you add it?

In this case it doesn't matter but if a command needs to be prefixed with sudo then I will add it. Adding sudo randomly to commands because you feel like it can damage your OS.

If you reboot now is it OK?
