The error apparently seems to be documented here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=499811&highlight=bios+bug

Are you running ubuntu 32 bit version on a 64 bit processor? This seems to be the common cause of this unresolved bug.

32bit version seems to run a lot better on my 64bit machine. The 64bit version seems to lack quite a lot in the repositories and anyway things generally seem more 'sorted out' in the 32bit

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/reposting a question just before america arrives online after work/school gives the best chance of getting a good few answers.
