How To Get 1280x1024 on GeForce 7800GS

Asked by Alinon

I currently have Unbuntu 5.10 Breezy

My issue is the highest resolution I can get is 1024x768. I would like 1280x1024 which is what I have with WinXP.

My current system specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Gigabyte K8 Triton Mobo
1024mb ddr ram
GeForce 7800GS 256mb AGP
17in Envision CRT

I have updated Ubuntu, and downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers both to the desktop and via the console.

I noticed there was another request for this resolution for on an ATI card so I tried as suggested and went to the console and typed :

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

I went through the setup just fine. Once I got to the driver selection I chose the one labeled "nvidia" and went through the rest of the setup choosing 1280x1024 as my native resolution. After which I completely rebooted my machine.

Unfortunately 1024x768 is still the highest resolution available. Any help on this would be highly appreciated! Thanks.
