Where to get 915resolution

Asked by Bilbo

I have a laptop with a 1280x800 screen. The solution I have been pointed to is "install i915resolution and call sudo /etc/init.d/915resolution start". Problem is I cannot find the required software on the CD or with apt-get under the name i915resolution or 915resolution. Suggestions?

I believe you have the universe repository not enabled (915resolution is in there).
You can check it in Menu->System->Administration->Software Sources.

Which Ubuntu version are you running?
Since Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) 915resolution shouldn't be needed anymore. xserver-xorg-video-intel should be able to set the resolution to 1280x800 (at least it works on my notebook running feisty without 915resolution).

Of course this only works if you have an Intel graphics chip.

The following page details where to get 915resolution:-

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/i915Driver

I had to use it under feisty to get my new Toshiba laptop to do 1400x1050 on its lcd panel.

I am running Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) with the Intel 950 graphics chip. When I examined the 810 code (I forget which file it was now) the 1200x800 resolution was there. However, that resolution was not an available F4 option at boot time nor was it available after booting. Also, I thought I had all repositories enabled. I will recheck and retry today.

Just to be on the safe side,
the exact command to get 915resolution from the repository is:

sudo apt-get install 915resolution
