go to System->Administration->Login Window then the Security tab. You can enable Automatic Login here.

Network Manager uses the Gnome-keyring to store the (probably) wireless AP passwords.

You will have to provide your old login password to get it. Depending on your version, there are ways of setting the Gnome-keyring without password.

go to System->Administration->Authorizations look for network-manager-settings, System, Modify system connections.

here you can tell it anyone can have authorization to make changes such as connect to a network.

nothing i try works. here is exactly what the screen says. Application networkmanager applet' (/user/bin/nm-applet) wants access to the default keyring, but it is locked. i then type in the password from when i installed ubuntu 8.10 and it boots up and runs great.
