System locks up randomly

Asked by MTMartin

Beginning after my last update, the system randomly slows to an unusable crawl. To be specific, I can move the mouse about 1 inch every 5-10 seconds but can't click on anything and keyboard shortcuts don't work. Have to do a hard reset. The following is posted in the sys log prior to every restart. Maybe that will help.

Feb 3 10:01:03 travis-laptop kernel: [ 879.840628] __ratelimit: 247 callbacks suppressed
Feb 3 10:01:08 travis-laptop kernel: [ 884.867175] __ratelimit: 247 callbacks suppressed

Feb 3 10:01:22 travis-laptop kernel: [ 899.972834] __ratelimit: 247 callbacks suppressed
Feb 3 10:01:44 travis-laptop kernel: [ 905.015122] __ratelimit: 249 callbacks suppressed

On most logs I see this prior to the lockup:

below is the terminal text. Not sure what you mean by Wine or Propietary. I have not installed anything outside of updates since the problem started. Also, what do you mean by "check your RAMs"?

The watchdog program writes to /dev/watchdog every ten seconds.
If the device is opened but not written to within a minute, the machine will reboot.
The ability to reboot will depend on the state of the machine and interrupts.

result from my Ubuntu Package Search : http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/watchdog

so..., uninstall Watchdog
