How do you download videos to a 4th generation Ipod?
How do you download videos to a 4th generation Ipod? I have tried Banshee Media Player and gtkpod and neither work to transfer videos to the Ipod.

Hello I notice that you have tried gtkpod yet have you tried gtkpod-aac? Try doing sudo apt-get install gtkpod-aac and see what happens.

Ok...I installed that. Will the program still be called gtkpod? I went into it and don't see anything about transferring videos.

oh yeah...I also received this message when I first opened gtkpod - iTunesDB '/media/
gtkpod will try to match the information using SHA1 checksums. This may take a long time.

The SHA1 Checksums doesn't matter too much, I get that error all the time. The application will still appear as "gtkpod". Open it up, Click on your iPod's tab and then go to "Add Files" on the top window. When you have finished adding your files, click "Save Changes" and then your music and videos will be transfered to the device. You must wait for the changes to make effect though.

can you load .avi files? That's what I currently have and it says - The following track could not be processed (filetype unknown): '/home/

No the iPod can only read .mp4 files. Go to www.winff.org and download an easier GUI converter tool but make sure that you are using the MediBuntu (https:/

I hate to sound dumb but I'm not sure what to do. I'm running 8.10.

No problem, type in the following into the terminal:
sudo wget http://
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update
wget --quiet --output-document=- "http://
echo "deb http://
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install winff libavcodec-
That should then install a program called WinFF which will convert movies from .avi to .mp4 to view on your iPod. When you convert the video, they will then be able to be transfered via gtkpod :).
Tell me if you have any more problems.

ok..i did that. Will I see the program WinFF or will it just be running in the background when needed?

You will see the program when you need to use it. Go to Applications > Sound & Video > WinFF in the top left hand corner. The program is self-explanatory but again if you get stuck come back & ask if you need to at all.

I went to Applications > Sound & Video> but WinFF is not listed. Should it be?

Yes it should be. Did you type the following commands into your terminal?
wget --quiet --output-document=- "http://
echo "deb http://
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install winff libavcodec-
If you have, you can try typing winff into the terminal instead.

I did but I tried it again and it responded - ok. I then typed winff and it said - bash: winff: command not found. ?????

Ok...I found an mp4 video file and downloaded then went into gtkpod and added it then saved changes. The copying status track stays at 0% though. The ipod says it's synchronizing but of course, nothing is happening. What should I do?

I had already read it but unless I missed it, I don't see anything that tells me how to transfer pictures from my computer to the ipod. Would you advise me of the instructions? Thanks.
