i installed ubuntu alongwith windows 8 and then replaced it by ubuntu. But I lost all my files in all drives.

IS there any way to recover my files. Though i had backup for some , others i dont have. i tried with testdisk but could not retrieve it after live boot up. please suggest

You may find that if you boot to the Ubuntu live CD /USB desktop you may be able to use foremost to retrieve data. You will need a writable partition of equal or greater size than the disk you are retrieving from.

If the area where the data was stored has been overwritten then it is irretrievable. You will lose file name and location data but you may recover files or partial files.

I suggest you review your backup regime. It clearly isn't appropriate
