08.04.2 on a USB pen drive won't boot

Asked by Tony Pursell

I used the System > Administration > Create a USB startup disk option to create a bootable pen drive.

I downloaded the 08.04.2 i386 iso and have checked its md5sum is OK. The pen drive is a 2GB Kingston Data Traveller. I opted for 1GB of reserved space.

With the USB drive selected in the boot menu, the boot starts OK but drops into BusyBox. Removing the splash and quiet boot options gives the following message before BusyBox:

EXT3-fs Unrecognized mount option "mode=755" or missing value

Is this a bug, or is there a work around.

Tony

08.10 worked after I re-formatted the drive, so I will close this.

Would have like to have had the LTS version on the stick.
