Getting Hang....Not recovering for long time

I have install the Ubuntu 8.10 on my pc....

1 >It was working well initially , but when i connected my mobile of sony erricson it is displaying well , but after some time pc get hang.... I need to restart the pc...... Why this is happeninig

2>If in future my pc get hang then what are the keys or what shall i do to recover it back instead of restart.

CTRL + ALT + BACLSPACE

restart the graphical interface, without reboot.

ALT + PRINT SCREEN + R + E + I + S + U + B

makes a soft correct reboot
