Hi,

In https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsIntel , your Intel card is considered to work "out of the box" since two years now. Can you detail what you have done and on what basis you consider it does not work?

if i have laptop hard wired it works fine. but will not work using the wireless card. im using a compaq v20000 with a intel pro, wireless card that came internaly instaled from compaq. i have configured the wep key for talking to modem. everything worked fine with windows xp service pack 3. i tryed instaling a driver from the system-administrator-hardware menu but still nothing. that driver says its for a braodcom b43 or something, not what i have. i have checked for updates to my system and installed all available, and looked for packages to install. i did find a linux driver for the card but i have no clue on how to get it installed.

I am a bit confused by something: in your first post, you say your wireless card is an Intel 3945ABG, and in a later post, you talk about a broadcom driver. Is your card a broadcom or an Intel? For some cards, you have to connect with the cable, and without shutting down the cable connection, open the wireless. Ubuntu will then propose you to install the driver of the wireless using the cable connection.

In theory, developers try not to accept regressions (things that work in old versions but do not work with recent versions). Therefore, it is not normal that a good support in Ubuntu 6.10 (from 2006) is broken now. What Ubuntu version are you running? This information will be important if you have to ask some questions in a forum.

it is an intel pro/wireless, not braod com. the broad com is what ubuntu sugested i load by going through system-administration- hardware drivers

OK, so the easiest thing you can try is to burn a CD of the new version of Ubuntu (8.10), the one you have (8.4) is already almost 1 year old. You don't need to install it, just boot from the CD and try to access the wireless. Does it work better?
