Installation not progressing

Asked by mrdavies60

New to Ubuntu.

Trying to install 8.10 on an Acer Travelmate 2420 (checked compatibility on laptop page and should be OK).

Nothing on the laptop so trashing isn't a problem previous ran XP on it.

Install CD allows selection of install Ubuntu then progress bar completes now seems to go into a loop of reporting B43 firmware error (update required), then a black screen with the X in middle then a coloured splash screen with the rotating wait icon.

CD is still reading I can hear it. Do I just need to be patient or should I crash out and do something different?

Downloaded the installer, checked the image before writing. Followed instructions to the letter as far as I can see.

Any advice?

I'm not that far on.

I can't actually get to the graphic install section, so fixing once in is not the problem.

I'm fairly clear what I need to do once installed, at the moment though I can't get that far because of the install loop.

Which iso did you use? Is it a livecd? If your using a livecd try an alternative iso. You will not be able to use the Broadcom wireless card during installation, use Ethernet (cat5 cable) instead.

Problem solved!

Lesson to be learned...don't install when tired, read the requirements properly!

Memory error...

increased memory and by jingo it works!
