WLAN not functional after update to kernel 2.6.24-23 generic from kernel 2.6.24.22-generic (ubuntu 8.04.2).

Asked by Thomas Bandurski

Hardware: Notebook hp Pavilion dv5000 with Intel Centrino Duo.
Problem: The automatic update of ubuntu 8.04.2 downloaded and installed the kernel version 2.6.24-23-generic. Now the WLAN is not functional any more. However, the WLAN is available booting the previously installed kernel 2.6.24-22-generic.

Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using a LAN cable.

Then please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following commands (type each then hit <enter>)

sudo iwlist scanning
nm-tool
iwconfig
ifconfig
sudo lshw -C network
lspci -nn
lsusb
uname -a
dmesg | grep ound
dmesg | grep illswitch

Step 3: Post results (cut/paste terminal output from each command) here

Regards,

Mark

if you are unable to get your wifi working with the new kernel, you can go back to the previous working kernel.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Thomas Bandurski for more information if necessary.
