cannot mount ext3 file system on scsi1
In trying to install Ubuntu (8.04 or 8.10 or even Linux Mint or DreamLinux 3.5), the install stops with the error msg:
"The attempt to mount a file system with type ext3 in SCSI1 (0.0.0), partition #1 (sda) at / failed."
First of all, I'm suspicious of why it sees my ST380215A ATA hard drive (ide) as a scsi, when it clearly is an ide drive?
Also, from one of the Ubuntu Forums, I tried editting the COMMIT file as suggested by adding update-dev, but this did not resolve the issue. As long as it is seeing a scsi drive, it cannot correctly operate/
The drive is 80 gigs, and brand new! I've tried 4 new, different drives and 3 known good cables, BIOS is also correct and this is a known working desktop computer! I've selected the "Use entire disk" option in the partitioning phase and have also Manually partitioned with the same results,
Thanks!
