BIOS /dev/fd0 Bug in Ubuntu

Asked by UbuntuYou

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 on a Tyan 2882 MB with 3.09 BIOS. When trying to gain access to the floppy disk, there is no /dev/fd0 that exists.

dmesg - shows nothing
/etc/mtab - shows nothing
/media - shows cdrom but no fd0

Is this an issue with the kernel?

If I boot Slackware, Fedora, or Windows on the same computer the floppy shows up fine and I can then mount and view.

floppy is disabled by default. to enable it, in a terminal type:

sudo modprobe floppy

now you can mount/unmount the floppy drive.

Can you help with this problem?
