video requirements for ubuntu

Asked by NateMaster

Hey guys, NateMaster here,

This isn't that important, but I figured I'd ask it,
I have a

1ghz celeron cpu
256 MB Ram
2MB Graphics card

and right now I have Xubuntu. I like it because I can watch quicktime movies or video files in it (can't in windows XP)
The problem is, is that I like Ubuntu a whole lot more and I didn't know if I could watch .mpeg files in it or if it would be too slow. So, I figured I'd ask you guys for some help before I do anything crazy and have a 45% chance to wipe out all of my data in Windows or in Xubuntu.

~Nate

why dont you boot off a LiveCD and see how it runs? you dont need to make any changes to your system. However i think it will be too painfully slow to be productive. with your system specs you should stick with Xubuntu.... or time to buy a new computer :)

I did USED to have Ubuntu 8.04, but I can't remeber if I could watch video. It would work fine, LITTLE faster than Windows, and I liked how it looked for the power it needed. I'll try the install and see. Shoot, I'll make things interesting. Oh, I would buy a laptop, but it is kinda hard to get $500 when your only 12.
