Revert from Ibex to Heron

Since upgrading from Hardy Heron to Intrepid Ibex on my Lenovo T61, I have had numerous problems with Kontact & Firefox and would like to revert back to Hardy Heron where things ran smoothly. How do I do this and save all my emails, settings, etc? I have updated regularly, hoping these glitches would be solved, but I'm still frustrated.

What I recommend is to back up all your files, format the Ubuntu / partition and do a clean install.
