Major automount problems

Asked by Tim Smith

I am basically having a hard time with automounting CDs. When I insert the cds basically what happens is....nothing. I used to be able to, until I tried to install Counter Strike source through wine and have never had it back to normal since. I can still use other removable drives (USB external drives) and unmount them with no problem, just I can't burn cds or run programs off cds anymore. Is there any way to reset the settings for automount?

I also have one other question. I tried to remove the crossover office trial version, and it tells me to run a command to eliminate the rest of the program files. I have tried this numerous times and it has told me that I am the root user. I have tried command lines to enable this but to no avail. I even found the actual program folder for it but it won't let me delete it because I'm not the root user.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do...Ubuntu was running amazingly up until now.

Ok well I found out how to edit my fstab file in etc. I changed noauto to default and it actually notices cds now (somewhat...but still doesn't work like it used to). I also now understand (through searching just a bit more) that you have to enable root through the terminal. Although I'm still unsure of the commands to use for actually removing the program files. Please tell me if there's anything else I should know.

To tell your system that you have root permissions, you must use the sudo command and when ask for a password gives yours (the you use to log in), the same when you're asked for a password for administrative tasks.
Hope this helps, let me know.
