after system updates and rebooting I cannot receive wireless Internet

Asked by imesillati

the wireless light in the front laptop panel is not turned on after the system updates
it dose work with Vista
Therefore I assume that the update carpeted some drives, that prevents the receiving of the wireless Internet

to try to get your wifi working go to System → Administration → Software Sources click on the Updates tab, then check the box for Unsupported updates (intrepid-backports). after you've enabled the backports update your ubuntu software from a terminal with the commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

you may need to reboot. after that go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers and enable any restricted drivers you have available.

If that doesn work, Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

lshw -C network

post the output here.

hi

The Internet doesn't work both with wireless or directly (cable) from the router.
It dose work in both ways with Vista.
My Internet provider doesn't support Ubuntu OS therefore I don't know if it is a setup problem.
Moreover I don't know how to set it by myself.
Nevertheless, I assume that all the setups are stored in the router, therefore the problem must be in the Ubuntu itself.
In order to follow your kindly advices I need Internet connection and I don't have while being in Ubuntu as explained above
since I have a dual OS on the same computer , is there a way to log-in into the Ubuntu OS while being in the Vista
so at least that I could cut and paste needed information and email it to you

Sincerely
Isaac

Hi,

I suggest inserting a USB stick into your pc, booting Ubuntu and then saving the output of the above commands (save as text file) onto the USB stick. Then reboot into Vista and send us the output stored on the USB stick.

Regards,

Mark
