Kubuntu won't boot with Promise 300 TX4 SATA

Asked by Greg

I have no video either booting from cd or trying to install Kubuntu 8.1. when I hit the power button to shut the system down, the video comes back while it's shutting down. I had things running fine with my old video card (radeon 9800 pro). With the new one, radeon 3850, I have the problem.

Thanks,

Greg

btw I've been using a promise sata 300 tx4 card for HD controller, don't think its related but who knows.. I was using the onboard controller last time i was able to boot successfully.
I was however able to somehow get Kubuntu installed on an old IDE drive and it worked with the new video card after trying the cntrl alt _ and + to alter the video frequency.

thanks again..

so if i understand you correctly you can install Kubuntu fine with either 9800 or 3850 video adaptor? so the problem lies with the promise controller? If so maybe you should change the title of the thread to get more precise support answers.

Can you help with this problem?
