Why is gksu marked as 'local-obsolete'?

Asked by udippel

Since the upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 yesterday, on one of my boxen, gksu is the last 'non-regular' item, it is marked as local and obsolete. But when I remove it, it will take a whole lot of programs with it, gdm, gnome-desktop, etc.
So I personally don't think it is and don't remove it. I have already done a few apt-get update, but it keeps telling me that gksu may safely be removed.
Is this true? Is this a bug?

That's what I thought.
Next: How do we prevent the unsuspicious user from removing it??

I made a screenshot, but can't attach it. I miss the button ...

Synaptic Package Manager says so. Under Status Installed (local or obsolete) one program shows: gksu.
