The latest Ubuntu release (8.10) has out of the box, "plug and play" support for these devices and many similar mobile broadband devices. The ZTE-MF622 which I am using on a daily basis for example.

Perhaps you should consider upgrading?

See here for details: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

Hi Alice,
I've got the huawei e220 and have installed it under Ubuntu 8.04 - so i can confirm it's working.

But it was not easy to set it up, finally it worked after upgrading the linux kernel to version 2.6.25-24 (Package "linux-image-2.6.24-24-generic" in Administration -> Synaptic". Please be carefull when updating the Kernel (carefully read the how-to guides) - i had serious problems with the Boot manager's "menu.lst" - file after the upgrade (I didn't read the how-to...).

Cheers,
Armin
