What is the general status of Esperanto support in Ubuntu ?

Asked by Fabián Rodríguez

I am curious about what the general status of Esperanto support is in Ubuntu. Specifically:
- OpenOffice.org and spelling
- Firefox
- Help + Documentation

The mailing list seems active, but.. I can't understand most of it as I don't know Esperanto :)

Thanks for any information on this. I am curious as someone in our LoCo list was commenting on Esperanto.

Hello Fabián,

I'm since some short time administrator of the translation team.
- OOo is translated (quite recently) by a dedicated team.
- Firefox translation is so new it doesn't appear yet here, the Firefox translation is made by another dedicated team.
- Help and documentation is in it's infancy, a project on the long term. ubuntu-eo.org has been registated for this kind of goals.

Hope this helps,

Hi Fabiàn

Lots of software developers seem to enjoy Esperanto. Perhaps because it is more logical
than natural languages.

OpenOffice is translated but I don't know about the status of OpenOffice version 3.

The official translation of latest Firefox-3.05 is available on Firefox's website (including for Linux of course).

Many other programs are translated in Esperanto (gimp, pidgin, vim, mutt, ...).

If you're more curious about Esperanto, you can find a good introduction and courses of
all levels (including beginners) at http://www.lernu.net.

Amuziĝu / Have fun
