Hi,

Is your wireless issue solved now in Ubuntu? If not, please do the following:

First connect your network card to the wireless router using a LAN cable.

Then please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following commands (type each then hit <enter>)

sudo iwlist scanning
nm-tool
iwconfig
ifconfig
sudo lshw -C network
lspci -nn
lsusb
uname -a
dmesg | grep ound
dmesg | grep illswitch

Step 3: Post results (cut/paste terminal output from each command) here

Regards,

Mark

On your system it should be a Atheros Wireless card.

Okay this is response to Leo. When i did what you told me too it said i had a Atheros Wireless card and that it was activated. But i still had no wireless, i even disconnect my LAN line to the router and it still gave me no internet access...

To Mark, Okay i'm going to try that and i'll repaste it in here... Thanks

Thats the results... i think a guy from the UBUNTU Forms found out for me that it is saying that its disabled and which he thinks means it doesn't have a driver. He gave me this website to look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5711824#post5711824 .

OKay wow i tried the link the other dude gave me but the instructions might be step by step but what they don't know is i'm a very VERY simple mind when it comes to terminal and all that stuff. so i got totally lost. But if ya'll can help while keeping it to a very basic step that would be great.

Hi,

Yes, indeed:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5711824#post5711824

is the right solution for your wireless issue. I will summarize the solutions steps (as described by forumuser reasoner):

Step 1: First under System/Administration/HarwareDrivers, disable both the Atheros HAL and the Atheros wireless thing and then reboot.

Step 2: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 3: Run the following commands (type each command then hit <enter>)

sudo apt-get install build-essential

sudo apt-get install subversion

cd ~

mkdir madwifi

cd madwifi

svn co https://svn.madwifi.org/madwifi/branches/madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6

cd madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6

make

sudo make install

sudo gedit /etc/modules

Now add the Atheros kernel module to the list of modules to be automatically loaded at boot by adding "ath_pci" (without the quotes) to the end of the /etc/modules file. (Gedit editor automatically opens)

Now you can reboot and it should work.

Regards,

Mark

Hi,

That is a DNS problem, as described in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5711824#post5711824

Try this svn command instead:

svn co https://217.24.1.142/madwifi/branches/madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6

Error validating server certificate for 'https://217.24.1.142:443':
 - The certificate hostname does not match.
Certificate information:
 - Hostname: svn.madwifi-project.org
 - Valid: from Tue, 04 Nov 2008 06:23:59 GMT until Sun, 03 May 2009 06:23:59 GMT
 - Issuer: http://www.cacert.org, Root CA
 - Fingerprint: 27:04:cd:a3:d2:93:2c:72:00:cc:17:8f:c5:85:95:96:fb:df:83:54
(R)eject, accept (t)emporarily or accept (p)ermanently? p

Type p and press <enter> to accept permanently. Then svn will download and store the contents in the newly created subdirectory called "madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6"

Then continue with the remaining steps.

Regards,

Mark
