There was an error copying the file into /media/Cruzer/Documents/Music.

Asked by Melinda

I get this error message Error while copying "Brooks And Dunn - Red Dirt Road.mp3". There was an error copying the file into /media/Cruzer/Documents/Music. When trying to move my songs from “my music” folder to my flashdrive. How do I correct this problem? Thanks!

Yes, there were several songs I was trying to move into my flashdrive at the same time. Then I tried each song individually and I received the same error message. But as for actually downloading them all at the same time I didn't do that. I downloaded each song individually. Thanks! Bye!

instead of moving them, can you try to copy them over to the flash drive? can you copy any other data or documents to the flash drive? how much free space does the flash drive have? if all else fails, you can reformat the flash drive and then copy your data to it.

Hi! Okay, I'll try that right now. The flash-drive is a SanDisk micro cruzer 2GB. Also this is how much free space it has 1.4 GB. Bye!

I tried copying them over to the flash drive but I received the same error message. Also this error message too " Error opening file '/media/Cruzer/Documents/Music/Brooks And Dunn - Red Dirt Road (copy).mp3': Permission denied" on all the songs.

okay lets try formatting your memory stick (this will erase ALL DATA from the memory stick)

go to System → Administration → Parition Editor

if you dont have the partition editor installed Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install gparted

once you have the parition editor running,

change the device to your usb thumbdrive. it will show you have 2GB disk space. make a note of what filesystem its using so you can format with the same one. most likely it will be FAT32. then click on the 2GB partition, say delete and apply. the drive is now wiped. now click new, and select whatever filesystem you want to use (again most likely fat32) and apply once more. now you should be able to read/write to your usb drive again.

WARNING: please be careful not to delete a partition from your computer's hard disk! only your thumbdrive.
