Asked by Mark Hamilton

I upgraded to ubuntu 8.10 and now when i try to check md5sum in the terminal it says No such file or directory, all i have every done was type in the terminal md5sum and paste in where the iso file is and it showed the md5sum. I have tried md5sum -c and that has the same results. Thanks

but md5sum --help works?
could you also try md5sum /usr/bin/vim
just to make sure you entered the path of an existing file.

Thanks,

Martin

Thanks, yes md5sum --help works and md5sum /usr/bin/vim gives me a
number. I have tried all options with the help and still can't check the
md5sum on the files i download. It still shows No such file or
directory. Now what? Thanks,
Mark

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. you probsbly do not enter valid path.
Do you know how to use tab-autocompletion?
Using this you can be sure md5sum gets the correct path.

Update, I was told that this was not a bug in gnome-terminal, well i installed xfce4-terminal and it works great, so that tells me that would be a bug in gnome-terminal ?l So i will be using xfce4-terminal. Thanks
