prublem with update

I'm trying to install 8.04 on my older pc, It installs just fine! but after the install, the update manager says there are like 249 updates so when It gets updates and installs them it requires a re-boot. when it re-boots the login screen comes up just fine but when you login the screen gets very distorted with lines and it freezes the mouse pointer wont even move.

Try starting Ubuntu in Recovery Mode and then running xfix in the menu which is shown. Then see if the graphics problem is rectified. Also, can you post your hardware specifications?

Hello Shawn,

as luck would have it Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.2 is released today. it is updated and contains all the fixes bulit in.
