Can you connect to the internet in some way or another? If yes, install the linux-backports-modules-interpid package

Atheros ar5007EG is a common chip that's not working or working with problems. I have managed to get it working on 8.04 using a special package from madwifi project but lately they removed it(!), so I don't know what else needs to be done now.

Hi,

Please check out the guide here:

http://www.lucioalbenga.com/2008/06/11/asus-f5-laptop-with-ubuntu/

More specifically, please follow the 5 steps below:

Setting up the WIFI on Asus F5 laptop:

UPDATE November 6, 2008: In intrepid Ibex the WIFI setup has changed.

If you use Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex rather than Hardy Heron follow this steps:

   1. First disable the ath9k driver. Open a terminal and type the following: sudo modprobe -r ath9k
   2. Then run synaptic. In the same terminal type: sudo synaptic Once synaptic is loaded search the package linux-backports-modules-kernel.version where kernel version matches your currently installed kernel. At the time of this writing it should be: linux-backports-modules-2.6.27-7-generic
   3. Once this package is installed type the following: sudo modprobe ath5k If everything goes well you should see your wifi connection in the network connection icon on the panel.
   4. Open the modules file: sudo vim /etc/modules and at the end add the following: ath5k
   5. Open the blacklist file: sudo vim /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and at the end add the following: ath9k
   6. End.

If you are new to vim, press the i key to start inserting text and ESC :wq ENTER to save and quit.

UPDATE END

Regards,

Mark

Hi,

Please connect your ethernet card to your wireless router using a LAN cable and then follow the instructions from forumuser "reasoner" at this location:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=902860&highlight=AR242x

If the command

svn co https://svn.madwifi.org/madwifi/branches/madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6

does not work, then get the driver here:

http://snapshots.madwifi-project.org/madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6/madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3917-20090116.tar.gz

This wireless bug has been discussed and solved the same way many times before:

Miguel, can you tell us exactly where did you find this driver or which one the guides did you follow? Links, etc.
Mark Rijckenberg, I have managed to get the same chipset work on 8.04 but not on 8.10, the guides you linked concern Ubuntu 8.04 and not the newest stable (that is, IF there are big differences, thing that I'm not so sure about yet).
