Is it possible to load Ubuntu onto a netbook which only had USB ports and it is not possible to go on the internet

Asked by jennieob

I hope to buy a netbook for my son for school work and am interested in uploading Ubuntu, the net book only has a USB port and no CD drive and we don't have the facility at home to download from the web. Is there a way round this? Buy the way I am totally computer illiterate which doesn't help

Some online stores offer USB sticks with Ubuntu pre-installed and ready to use.

The Canonical store also offers USB sticks.

You could of course copy the installation CD to a USB stick yourself, but it is quite a complicated process. It would involve purchasing a CD, dumping the CD to an ISO file, and then using one of the following tools mentioned here:

Hope this helps!
