what does the command line say? Grub? do you get a login prompt and can you login with your username and password? if so, what error messages do you get if you run startx?

thank u nhasian startx helped me to come back to graphical mode. and i understand my mistake it was
i run the following commands sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils and then sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils , but this may result in some other packages which depend on the sound-base and alsa-utils from being removed, such as gdm and ubuntu-desktop. that was the problem . thank u for your help.
i solved this after reading https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting
