slow internet

I just installed ubuntu for the first time. I am able to use my old cable Internet connection but suddenly it is very slow, like dial-up slow, like 7kbs download slow. furthermore downloads tend to fail or freeze after a few minutes. Any ideas?

lets test your internet speed. go to:

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

select the closest server. post the results back here. what program are you experiencing the slow downloads in? firefox, ftp, bit torrent? etc

I ran the installation again said 10 hail linuxes and the problem was somehow resolved. thanks for the help.
